# Startup Name Check jobs

Each section below walks through one job with the tools of the `names` MCP server. The same recipes are MCP prompts (prompts/list) on `https://api.openkrill.app/gateway/mcp`.
Connect the server at `https://names.openkrill.app/mcp` in your MCP client settings (remote streamable HTTP, no key), then call its tools as normal tool calls. They are not command line programs: Bash, curl and scripts cannot reach them.

## Check name and domain availability

Job: Check name and domain availability, with the Startup Name Check MCP server.

Use the `check_domain_availability` tool for this job.

Work on the user's request. If there is none yet, ask what they need. A request this job handles: "Check if the startup name zzqxnowherewidgets123 is taken."

Steps:
1. Call `check_domain_availability` as a normal MCP tool call, with the request's values in the fields of its inputSchema. It needs `names`.
2. If a value the tool needs is missing and you cannot tell it from the request, ask the user one short question first.
3. This input is known to work; copy its format, not its values: `{"names":["google.com"]}`
4. For the request "Check if the startup name zzqxnowherewidgets123 is taken.", a correct answer looks like this: One name entry with six domains (.com, .net, .org, .ai, .app, .dev), each status available, a source and an asOf date, plus the notice that this is indicative and not a reservation. A registration cost is included only when Cloudflare Registrar answered that domain.
5. Follow the server's own rules:
   - Use check_domain_availability when the user asks whether a domain, startup name or business name is available or taken.
   - Pass names as the user wrote them, or full domains such as acme.com to check only that domain; set tlds when the user wants specific endings ("a .com" means tlds ["com"]).
   - When asked to find an available domain, brainstorm up to five candidate names and check them together.
   - Always say the result is indicative and not a reservation, and that trademarks were not checked.
   - Give the source and asOf date.
   - When registrationCost is present, state that cost and that it is not a charge.
   - A status of unsupported means the ending has no public registration data; unavailable means the lookup did not answer, so say the result is unknown.
   - Never guess who owns a domain, and never offer to register, buy or reserve one.
6. If the call fails or the answer looks wrong, tell the user, then report it with `submit_feedback` (kind bug, tool `check_domain_availability`).
