# Document Tools

Count words and SMS segments, and make calendar and CSV files. It is free, with no sign-up and no key.

## What it does

Four small document jobs in one place: count the words in a text, translate a web page you own into another language, make a calendar file, or turn a table into a CSV file.

Ask "how many words and characters is this?", "will this fit in one SMS?", "translate my docs page into Vietnamese, I own it", "make a calendar file for a meeting every Monday at 10 in New York" or "put these rows in a CSV I can open in Excel".

Counting gives characters, words, sentences, paragraphs, lines, SMS segments, reading time and Flesch reading scores, and states the rule behind each count.

Calendar files follow RFC 5545 and open in Google Calendar, Outlook and Apple Calendar, with time zones, repeats, reminders and all-day events. CSV files follow RFC 4180, with correct quoting and an optional byte order mark for Excel.

Translation reads a public web page that you own or have the rights to translate, such as your documentation or public-domain text, and returns Markdown in about 100 languages with headings, lists and code blocks in place.

It does not add events to your calendar, open or edit an existing spreadsheet, or translate copyrighted fiction or comics. Files come back as text and as a download link that expires after 24 hours. Your text and pages are not stored.

- Counts characters, words, sentences, paragraphs and lines, with the counting rules stated
- Reports SMS encoding and how many segments a message takes
- Estimates reading time and Flesch reading scores for English text
- Makes .ics calendar files with time zones, repeats, reminders and all-day events
- Makes CSV files with correct quoting and an optional Excel byte order mark
- Returns the file text and a download link that works for 24 hours
- Translates owned web pages, documentation, and public-domain text into clean Markdown without persistent copies

## Connect

The MCP server is `https://docs.openkrill.app/mcp` (streamable HTTP). It needs no key.

Claude Code, in one command:

```
claude mcp add --transport http docs https://docs.openkrill.app/mcp
```

Hermes Agent, in one command that answers its two setup questions (no key, enable all tools):

```
printf 'n\ny\n' | hermes mcp add docs --url https://docs.openkrill.app/mcp
```

Or add these lines to `~/.hermes/config.yaml`, under an existing `mcp_servers:` key if the file has one. Start a new Hermes session after either step.

```
mcp_servers:
  docs:
    url: https://docs.openkrill.app/mcp
```

Any other agent: give it this page's Markdown address, `https://tools.openkrill.app/tools/docs.md`, and ask it to connect Document Tools.

Install guides, each checked with a real call: [Document Tools in ChatGPT](https://tools.openkrill.app/integrations/docs/chatgpt), [Document Tools in Claude](https://tools.openkrill.app/integrations/docs/claude), [Document Tools in Cursor](https://tools.openkrill.app/integrations/docs/cursor), [Document Tools in VS Code](https://tools.openkrill.app/integrations/docs/vscode), [Document Tools in Pi](https://tools.openkrill.app/integrations/docs/pi).

## Job recipes for agents

Step-by-step recipes that walk an agent through 3 jobs with this server's tools:

- Count words and characters, with `count_text`
- Make a calendar (.ics) file, with `make_calendar_file`
- Translate a webpage or documentation, with `translate_page`

[Download the recipes as SKILL.md](https://tools.openkrill.app/skills/docs-jobs/SKILL.md). Save it as `docs-jobs/SKILL.md` in your agent's skills folder. A connected MCP client gets the same recipes from `prompts/list` on the gateway, `https://api.openkrill.app/gateway/mcp`.

It is listed under Writing, media and files in the [full tool list](https://tools.openkrill.app/tools). The same facts in plain text are in [llms.txt](https://tools.openkrill.app/llms.txt).
