# Video Grab

Find freely licensed videos, with the license from the source record. It is free, with no sign-up and no key.

## What it does

Find freely licensed video you can reuse, with a download link, the licence and ready-to-paste attribution, and get the official steps to export videos you uploaded yourself.

Ask "find a freely licensed video of ocean waves", "how do I download my own YouTube videos?" or "what licence is on this Internet Archive film?".

Search reads Wikimedia Commons and the Internet Archive. Every hit states the licence the source record gives (CC BY, CC BY-SA, CC0 or public domain) and an attribution line. Internet Archive search results link to the item's download directory; the metadata tool returns a direct file and any caption file the item lists. Commons files are free to reuse under the licence on the file page. An Internet Archive item is included only when its record states a free licence.

We do not rip videos: downloading from TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, X, Douyin, Bilibili or Xiaohongshu, or stripping a watermark, breaks those sites' terms. A request for one of those downloads, or for watermark removal, gets that explanation and no file. For your own videos, the export tool gives the official steps from YouTube Help, Instagram Help, TikTok's data-download help page and the X archive settings page.

Pexels and Pixabay are searched only when their API keys are configured (stored in the operator vault, never in this service's answers). A YouTube watch link returns public metadata: oEmbed when no YouTube Data API key is configured, or the Data API when one is. Neither path returns a download. Caption files are not downloaded; the Data API may name tracks when it allows that.

Nothing you ask is stored. Answers are cached for a few hours and the only lasting record is a daily count of calls per tool.

- Searches Wikimedia Commons and the Internet Archive for freely licensed video
- Each hit includes a download link, the licence and ready-to-paste attribution
- Official export steps for your own videos on TikTok, YouTube, Instagram and X
- Metadata and caption files where the official source API lists them
- Refuses platform downloads and watermark removal, and explains why

## Connect

The MCP server is `https://videograb.openkrill.app/mcp` (streamable HTTP). It needs no key.

Claude Code, in one command:

```
claude mcp add --transport http videograb https://videograb.openkrill.app/mcp
```

Hermes Agent, in one command that answers its two setup questions (no key, enable all tools):

```
printf 'n\ny\n' | hermes mcp add videograb --url https://videograb.openkrill.app/mcp
```

Or add these lines to `~/.hermes/config.yaml`, under an existing `mcp_servers:` key if the file has one. Start a new Hermes session after either step.

```
mcp_servers:
  videograb:
    url: https://videograb.openkrill.app/mcp
```

Any other agent: give it this page's Markdown address, `https://tools.openkrill.app/tools/videograb.md`, and ask it to connect Video Grab.

Paste the address into your assistant once: the [connect steps](https://tools.openkrill.app/#connect) cover Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor, and the [install guides](https://tools.openkrill.app/integrations) show the same steps for each client.

## Job recipes for agents

Step-by-step recipes that walk an agent through 3 jobs with this server's tools:

- Search freely licensed video, with `search_free_videos`
- Export your own videos, with `own_video_export`
- Video metadata and captions, with `video_metadata`

[Download the recipes as SKILL.md](https://tools.openkrill.app/skills/videograb-jobs/SKILL.md). Save it as `videograb-jobs/SKILL.md` in your agent's skills folder. A connected MCP client gets the same recipes from `prompts/list` on the gateway, `https://api.openkrill.app/gateway/mcp`.

It is listed under Writing, media and files in the [full tool list](https://tools.openkrill.app/tools). The same facts in plain text are in [llms.txt](https://tools.openkrill.app/llms.txt).
