Document Tools in Cursor
Count text, make .ics and CSV. The MCP server is https://docs.openkrill.app/mcp. No key. The steps below are only for Cursor. A call to count_text was checked against that server on 2026-10-01.
What this server answers
Count the words in a text, make a calendar file you can open in any calendar app, or turn a table into a CSV file, and get the result right every time.
Ask "how many words and characters is this?", "will this fit in one SMS?", "make a calendar file for a meeting every Monday at 10 in New York" or "put these rows in a CSV I can open in Excel".
Document Tools counts characters, words, sentences, paragraphs and lines, reports how many SMS segments a message takes, estimates reading time and gives Flesch reading scores. The counting rules are stated in every answer, so you can see what a word or a character means.
It writes standard calendar files (RFC 5545 .ics) with one or many events, time zones, repeats, reminders and all-day events, and standard CSV files (RFC 4180) with correct quoting and an optional byte order mark for Excel.
Each file comes back as text you can copy and as a download link. The link works for 24 hours; after that the file is deleted. The text you ask it to count is never stored, and the only lasting record is a daily count of calls per tool.
Text counted is limited to about 3,500 words; a calendar file to 50 events; a CSV to 2,000 rows and 100 columns.
What it can do
- Counts characters, words, sentences, paragraphs and lines, with the counting rules stated
- Reports SMS encoding and how many segments a message takes
- Estimates reading time and Flesch reading scores for English text
- Makes .ics calendar files with time zones, repeats, reminders and all-day events
- Makes CSV files with correct quoting and an optional Excel byte order mark
- Returns the file text and a download link that works for 24 hours
Tools
count_text, Count words and characters. Use this when the user asks how long a text is, for example "how many words is this", "character count for this tweet", "will this fit in one SMS", "how long does this take to read". Pass the text exactly as written, at most 20,000 characters. Returns characters, characters without spaces, graphemes (user-perceived characters), words, sentences, paragraphs, lines, UTF-8 bytes, SMS encoding and segments, reading minutes, and Flesch reading ease and grade level (English only; null otherwise), with the rules used for each count. The text is not stored.make_calendar_file, Make a calendar (.ics) file. Use this when the user wants a calendar file, for example "make a calendar file for this meeting", "create an .ics for my weekly class", "export these dates so I can import them". Pass 1 to 50 events, each with a title, a start (a date for an all-day event, or a date and time) and an end or duration_minutes, plus a timezone (IANA name such as America/New_York) for a time without Z or an offset. Optional per event: location, description, reminder_minutes and a repeat (freq daily, weekly, monthly or yearly with interval, until or count, and byday for weekly). Returns the .ics text, a download link that works for 24 hours, its expiry and the event count. It makes a file only; it does not add anything to a calendar.make_csv_file, Make a CSV file. Use this when the user wants a CSV file, for example "put this table in a CSV", "make a spreadsheet file from these rows", "export this list as CSV for Excel". Pass columns (header names) and rows (each row has one cell per column; cells are text, numbers, true or false, or null), up to 2,000 rows and 100 columns. Optional: filename, excel_bom (start the file with a UTF-8 byte order mark so Excel reads accents) and escape_formulas (show cells starting with = + - or @ as text). Returns the CSV text, a download link that works for 24 hours, its expiry and the row count. It makes a file only; it does not open or edit spreadsheets.
Add Document Tools in Cursor
Cursor reads MCP servers from mcp.json. A project file at .cursor/mcp.json applies to that project. A user file at ~/.cursor/mcp.json applies everywhere. These steps were checked against the Cursor MCP docs on 2026-10-01. Streamable HTTP is the transport: a url, not a shell command.
Create or edit the file so it contains this server. Merge it with servers you already have. Do not replace the whole file if other servers are listed.

No headers and no auth block. Those are for servers that require a token or a pre-registered OAuth client. Document Tools answers without either. Saving the file is the install. Open Cursor Settings, then MCP, and confirm Document Tools is enabled. If it stays disconnected, reload the window. You should see count_text, make_calendar_file, make_csv_file.
In Agent chat, ask: How many words and characters is this text? Cursor calls the tool over streamable HTTP and shows the arguments before it runs them, depending on your run mode. Approve the call the first time and read the result. The server is public and read-only. It does not see your repository unless the model puts repository text into the arguments, so do not paste secrets into the question.
A one-click Marketplace install does not exist for this server. The JSON above is the whole setup. Team admins can distribute the same url through a team marketplace, but that is an admin step, not something this page can do for you. OAuth redirect URLs in the Cursor docs matter only for servers that require sign-in. Skip them here.

A short sentence is enough to show word and character counts. The text is not stored. The request below was posted to https://docs.openkrill.app/mcp as tools/call. HTTP 200. Source: the Document Tools server, read 2026-10-01.
