Country Stats Facts in ChatGPT
Country data: World Bank, IMF. The MCP server is https://countrystats.openkrill.app/mcp. No key. The steps below are only for ChatGPT. A call to get_country_indicator was checked against that server on 2026-10-01.
What this server answers
Look up official economic and demographic figures for a country, and see the IMF's projections, from the World Bank and the IMF.
Ask "what is Vietnam's population?", "compare GDP per capita for Germany, France and Italy", "what does the IMF forecast for India's growth?" or "rank the Nordic countries by life expectancy".
One tool returns the latest World Bank figure for a country, or the figure for a year you name, for a fixed set of 14 series: population, GDP, GDP per capita, GDP growth, inflation, unemployment, life expectancy, fertility rate, urban population, internet use, exports, income inequality, CO2 emissions per person and electricity use. A second tool compares up to 6 countries on one series in a single call and ranks them. A third returns the IMF's projection for real GDP growth, inflation or government debt for the current year and the next two.
Every value comes with its year, its unit, its source and the date the source was last updated. Latest means the most recent year with data, which is usually one to two years old and differs by country, so the year is always shown.
It is not a source of live prices, exchange rates, markets or news, and it gives no investment or policy advice. Regions and groups such as Europe, the euro area or OECD are not countries here; name the countries you want. The countries you ask about are not stored; the only lasting record is a daily count of calls per tool.
What it can do
- Latest World Bank value, or the value for a given year, for a country on 14 economic and demographic series
- Compares up to 6 countries on one series and ranks them in a single call
- IMF projections for real GDP growth, inflation and government debt for the current year and the next two
- Every value carries its year, unit, source and the date the source was last updated
- Accepts country names, common short names and ISO 2 or 3 letter codes
- Annual statistics only: no live prices, exchange rates or advice
Tools
get_country_indicator, Get a country statistic. Use this when the user asks for one official statistic for one country, such as "what is Vietnam's population?" or "what was unemployment in Spain in 2022?". Pass the country (name or ISO code), the indicator (population, gdp, gdp_per_capita, gdp_growth, inflation, unemployment, life_expectancy, fertility_rate, urban_population, internet_users, exports, gini, co2_per_capita, electricity_use) and optionally a year. Returns the value, its year and unit, the source and the date it was last updated; without a year it returns the latest year with data. It reads annual World Bank statistics only: no live data, forecasts or regions.compare_countries, Compare countries. Use this when the user asks to compare or rank countries on one statistic, such as "compare GDP per capita for Germany, France and Italy" or "rank the Nordic countries by life expectancy". Pass 2 to 6 countries (names or ISO codes), the indicator, and optionally a year and an order. Returns the countries ranked with each value and year, any country without data, the source and the date it was last updated. Expand a group such as Nordic or G7 into its countries first; groups themselves are not accepted.get_imf_forecast, Get an IMF forecast. Use this when the user asks what the IMF projects for a country, such as "what does the IMF forecast for India's growth next year?". Pass the country and the indicator (growth, inflation or debt). Returns the IMF's figures for the current year and the next two, with the unit, the World Economic Outlook edition and the date it was published. It reports the IMF's projections only and does not make its own forecasts.
Add Country Stats Facts in ChatGPT
ChatGPT does not read a local config file. A custom MCP server is added in the product, and only after developer mode is on. These steps were checked against OpenAI's plugin connect guide and the ChatGPT MCP guide on 2026-10-01. Developer mode can be hidden by a workspace policy, so a Team or Enterprise admin may have to allow it first.
- Open ChatGPT settings, then Security and login, and turn on Developer mode.
- Open ChatGPT plugins and select the plus button.
- Enter a name such as "Country Stats Facts" and a one-line description of what you want it to answer.
- Under Connection, choose the public endpoint and paste
https://countrystats.openkrill.app/mcp. Include the/mcppath. Do not add a tunnel id: this server is already public. - Create the connection and review the tools ChatGPT lists. You should see
get_country_indicator,compare_countries,get_imf_forecast. The feedback tools on the same server are optional and not required for the lookup. - Start a new conversation, add the connection from the tools menu, and ask: What is Vietnam's population according to the World Bank?
No API key and no OAuth client id are required. The server answers without a login. Calls are limited per network and per day, and a limit comes back as a tool error rather than a partial answer. If the tool list is stale after a server change, open the connection and select Refresh, then start a new conversation.
The ChatGPT desktop app, Codex CLI and IDE extension share a different config. In the desktop app, open Settings, then MCP servers, choose Add server, select Streamable HTTP, and paste the same URL. In ~/.codex/config.toml the equivalent is a table named mcp_servers.countrystats with url = "https://countrystats.openkrill.app/mcp". ChatGPT on the web does not read that file. A published directory listing is also a different path: this page is the developer-mode connection, not a claim that Country Stats Facts is already in the ChatGPT directory.
Treat the server as untrusted until you have read a few answers. A remote MCP server sees the arguments the model sends. Country Stats Facts is read-only and documents what it sends onward on the privacy page.
