Country Stats Facts in Pi
Country data: World Bank, IMF. The MCP server is https://countrystats.openkrill.app/mcp. No key. The steps below are only for Pi. A call to get_country_indicator was checked against that server on 2026-10-01.
What this server answers
Look up official economic and demographic figures for a country, and see the IMF's projections, from the World Bank and the IMF.
Ask "what is Vietnam's population?", "compare GDP per capita for Germany, France and Italy", "what does the IMF forecast for India's growth?" or "rank the Nordic countries by life expectancy".
One tool returns the latest World Bank figure for a country, or the figure for a year you name, for a fixed set of 14 series: population, GDP, GDP per capita, GDP growth, inflation, unemployment, life expectancy, fertility rate, urban population, internet use, exports, income inequality, CO2 emissions per person and electricity use. A second tool compares up to 6 countries on one series in a single call and ranks them. A third returns the IMF's projection for real GDP growth, inflation or government debt for the current year and the next two.
Every value comes with its year, its unit, its source and the date the source was last updated. Latest means the most recent year with data, which is usually one to two years old and differs by country, so the year is always shown.
It is not a source of live prices, exchange rates, markets or news, and it gives no investment or policy advice. Regions and groups such as Europe, the euro area or OECD are not countries here; name the countries you want. The countries you ask about are not stored; the only lasting record is a daily count of calls per tool.
What it can do
- Latest World Bank value, or the value for a given year, for a country on 14 economic and demographic series
- Compares up to 6 countries on one series and ranks them in a single call
- IMF projections for real GDP growth, inflation and government debt for the current year and the next two
- Every value carries its year, unit, source and the date the source was last updated
- Accepts country names, common short names and ISO 2 or 3 letter codes
- Annual statistics only: no live prices, exchange rates or advice
Tools
get_country_indicator, Get a country statistic. Use this when the user asks for one official statistic for one country, such as "what is Vietnam's population?" or "what was unemployment in Spain in 2022?". Pass the country (name or ISO code), the indicator (population, gdp, gdp_per_capita, gdp_growth, inflation, unemployment, life_expectancy, fertility_rate, urban_population, internet_users, exports, gini, co2_per_capita, electricity_use) and optionally a year. Returns the value, its year and unit, the source and the date it was last updated; without a year it returns the latest year with data. It reads annual World Bank statistics only: no live data, forecasts or regions.compare_countries, Compare countries. Use this when the user asks to compare or rank countries on one statistic, such as "compare GDP per capita for Germany, France and Italy" or "rank the Nordic countries by life expectancy". Pass 2 to 6 countries (names or ISO codes), the indicator, and optionally a year and an order. Returns the countries ranked with each value and year, any country without data, the source and the date it was last updated. Expand a group such as Nordic or G7 into its countries first; groups themselves are not accepted.get_imf_forecast, Get an IMF forecast. Use this when the user asks what the IMF projects for a country, such as "what does the IMF forecast for India's growth next year?". Pass the country and the indicator (growth, inflation or debt). Returns the IMF's figures for the current year and the next two, with the unit, the World Economic Outlook edition and the date it was published. It reports the IMF's projections only and does not make its own forecasts.
Add Country Stats Facts in Pi
Pi does not speak MCP on its own. The pi-mcp-adapter extension (these steps match version 2.34.0) loads remote servers and keeps their schemas out of the prompt until you ask. Install it once, then restart Pi:
pi install npm:pi-mcp-adapter
Add the server to a shared MCP file. Use .mcp.json in the project if only that project needs Country Stats Facts, or ~/.config/mcp/mcp.json if you want it in every project. Pi also reads ~/.agents/mcp.json. A Pi-only override lives in ~/.pi/agent/mcp.json or .pi/mcp.json and wins over the shared file.
{
"mcpServers": {
"countrystats": {
"url": "https://countrystats.openkrill.app/mcp"
}
}
}
The url is enough. Do not set command: that field is for a local process. No API key header. After restart, run /mcp and confirm the server is listed. The first call connects lazily. Ask: What is Vietnam's population according to the World Bank? The adapter should offer get_country_indicator, compare_countries, get_imf_forecast.
Leave directTools off unless you want those schemas in every turn. With a handful of tools the cost is small. The default proxy is the better fit: search for the tool, then call it. /mcp disable countrystats writes a project override in .pi/mcp.json without editing the shared file. Run /reload after that change.
Pi will not find this server by scanning Cursor or Claude config unless you run /mcp setup and import it. Putting the url in .mcp.json is the direct path and the one this page tests against. The server is the same public endpoint the other clients use, with the same limits and the same privacy rules.
